Susan Philipsz – Lowlands Sound Installation
In 2010 our technicians provided specialist access services using boats and rope access techniques to carryout the installation of the speakers and associated sound equipment that made up this interesting sound installation called “The Lowlands”. The speakers and equipment were hung off bridges and piers over the river Clyde in Glasgow.
Once complete, the installation was turned on and played out Susan singing three versions of the Scottish lament “Lowlands Away” giving all around an interesting sound to listen to for the next two months as they passed under the George the V bridge.
Martin Boyce – Electric Trees and Telephone Booth Conversations
Also in 2010 we were called into the National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh to assist with the Electric Trees installation. The installation was made up of three large timber ‘trees’ each reaching high into the ceiling above.
The over all concern was how to ensure these pieces could be supported to avoid the risk of them toppling over without affecting the aesthetics of the entire installation. All parties put their heads together and came up with a bespoke system of wires and resin anchors which were connected to the top of the sculptures.
The system was a success with the exhibition open for some months and most importantly with no trees falling over!
