Our recent project on Bo’ness Pier involved carrying out concrete and masonry repairs. The scope of the works included the removal of vegetation from the top of the pier to the sea bed, racking out and pointing, replacing stonework, taking down and rebuilding an area of blockwork and pressure pointing.
The vegetation mainly consisted of seaweed and was removed using pressure washers and hand tools. The raking out was done using hand tools, chisels, hammers and wire brushes and, where required, a Hilti T60 Breaker was used to remove old pointing. Pointing was done using NHL 5 Mortar using hand tools and mortar guns in deeper joints.
Repairs to fissures as directed by the client were carried out using HILTI resin. This was applied using the resin/mortar gun, inserting the narrow nozzle as deep as possible into fissures.
