ABERDEENSHIRE PRINCIPAL INSPECTION AND INTRUSIVE INVESTIGATION

Throughout January and February of 2017, one of our teams was engaged in the principal inspection and intrusive investigation of a number of concrete highway structures in Aberdeenshire on behalf of Amey.  Locations included Inverbervie, Aboyne and Boat of Hatton.

The general purpose of the project was to gauge the strength of the concrete, the condition of the rebar and note any structural defects to allow an assessment of the structures to be carried out.  Detailed reports of the defects as well as results from the testing were subsequently prepared for the client.

The scope of the works included core drilling, concrete breakout to reinforcement, half-cell testing, concrete meter readings and incremental dust sampling for chloride testing. All of these works were carried out using rope access techniques to manoeuvre around the structures into position. The works also included trial pits through the road surfacing to gauge its depth and either determine whether waterproofing is present or carry out further concrete testing.
